Looking Back and Forward

21 January 2007

“But, it’s in black and white. It’s boring.”

It’s the immediate protest of many people. We’re not necessarily even talking about children, either. Full grown adults forsaking a half century of cinema because they want pretty colors. Silver Screenings attempts to show that there’s more to black and white films than “Leave it to Beaver.” Each week will see two reviews of classics in genres ranging from drama, romance, crime, and others. The only criteria? They must be edgy and interesting, even by today’s standards.

Occasionally standing in for a review will be an essay concerning the making of early films and their impact on society. It will soon become quite evident that little has changed behind and in front of the silver screen in the past century.

Without any further delay, sit back and enjoy the show.
